What we did this week
Chris:
- Finished Factions – Thanks for the help Celeste!
- Started Winds of Change
- I think I need to start working on Epic Skills, as I’m finding some of this content just too hard without it.

Ask an Asuran
Hi , I have a two part question . First , is it true you can carry your character’s name from Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2 . And is it any character from your account or do they need to have certain titles. Secondly , in Guild Wars 2 . Do the races have the same skills , if they are the same profession . Like a Char Ele and an Asuran Ele . Enjoying the show , keep them coming.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=258530&postcount=7 Yes they carry over through your hall of monuments (this will happen when account linking is enabled), but give a look at this particular post about how your name could be adapted for the five races of Tyria.
Let me expand a bit on the Ten-slot skill bar. The first 5 are determined by your weapon and profession. Then comes the your dedicated healing skill, based on profession. 7-9 are utility and can be based on profession or race. the 10th slot is your elite and can also be based on profession or race. these skills are chosen through a pop up menu when you are allotting them.
What sort of release schedule can we expect for expansions?
Based on Guild Wars we should be seeing new expansions at least yearly with new content added more regularly. I think it will be closer to every 4 months or so that we’ll be getting new dungeons (etc) for microtransactions or even for free.
What does “endgame” look like for Guild Wars 2?
Okay, you’re seriously trying to stump me. The best I can say is that they’re won’t be endless raiding. We don’t really know!

Hi, this is Chris just saying thanks for the response. I was definitely not expecting to hear it (in a literal sense). Just wanted to apologize if I came off as condescending at all; it was not intended to be so in the slightest.(my wording choice was poor at best) There are so many new players lately; more than ever from what I can tell. Glad to see more people enjoying a great game! Onto subject, I definitely recommend the Necromancer class for Chris. It was my first, 6 years ago, and I still love it. The new minion master updates (the summoned ally window [y key]) makes it incredibly easy and super fun. Add Death Nova to the mix, AotL… You get booms and minions! Muahaha, great fun. But since you love your ele, as do I, something that is getting interesting is the skill changes to Mist Form and Double Dragon. Makes for some fun abuse. Mist Form as secondary party heals is really helpful and Double Dragon… Cast that on a team mate in the thick of things… Very GW2 esq in that they are party buffs that have more than just 1 primary affect. Very cool additions to the skill bar in my opinion. Also, in the podcast you were talking about doing a guide on beating all the campaigns. I am currently taking a couple alt accounts through the campaigns, so if you guys would like any outsider ideas on hero team builds/mission strategies and that sort of stuff, I’d gladly assist.
Next week I want to talk about essential elites for easy hero builds and party configurations. Especially focusing on elites that you can gain painlessly for each profession.
Side note, there are lots of new players coming to GW because of GW2 being so hyped. I highly recommend all players take 1 character through all the campaigns, then do War in Kryta, Hearts of the North, and Winds of Change. The content is great! It’s difficult, entertaining, and the story line expansion is excellent!
Nerd Card: Started December 05′, have logged 8700 hours. 50/50 is doable without outside help :) (it’s basically just getting in game cash, and grinding books/vqs/cartog/missions) There are too many fun aspects about GW to ever get too bored, but as of late VQ’s with full parties are the best part of GW for me.
So in disjointed conclusion, I offer my services if you would like any input or guides on missions/vqs/primary quests/new content/ zaishen daily’s/dungeons/elite areas. Also to keep your minds at ease… My total in game hours are not too insane.. It only amounts to 6% of my time alive between December 2005 and now. :)
P.S. 55 is fun, but 105 halycon job farming outside Zos Shivros for Dragon Staves… :)
Thanks for the reply, lovin’ the podcast! Sorry for the article sized email.
Take Care,
Chris
hey guys,
I’m looking forward to GW2, but never really played GW. I pull it out whenever there’s a big GW2 teaser, thinking I’ll earn some HoM points while I wait. But have no idea how to go about it. I had a moment of excitement when you announced the Ask an Asuran segment in Episode 14, hoping I was about to hear a beefy list of tips. The one tip you did give (get EotN heros) – was a great one that literally took me weeks to figure out on my own. But surely there are a few more? If it’s too detailed a subject for the podcast, do you think you can you recommend a good, current guide to earning HoM points as a total noob?
thanks for the great podcast

I’m planning to update the guide we have on our website with a lot more tips. Here’s a guide from the mouths of fans and experts alike: Take one character through all the campaigns and then the endgame of Guild Wars Beyond. There are so many ways to earn points but completing the campaigns is surely the easiest step in that direction. That will gain you 9 points if you go back and do HM too. Make an alt to earn Legendary Defender of Ascalon by getting lv 20 in pre-searing ascalon when you want to rage quit while vanquishing and cartographing concurrently. Always keep a supply of lockpicks and identification kits while doing this to get your wisdom and treasure hunter titles up. Try not to die to gain rank 3 survivor. With completion, vanquish, and mapping you should be able to have master of the north upped leading you to 11 points. Do all the dungeons to get to 12. That’s the short version if you want to get going with the Honor portion of the Hall of Monuments.
For Devotion, buy miniatures when they’ve gotten low in price. You can find some of the whites for 100-500g, The Canthan New Year was a great opportunity to gain a rare gold. If you manage to collect 20 minipets, with one of them being rare or unique you’ll be up to 16 points. Get up to 50 minatures (at least 1 unique and 1 rare) and you’ll be at 20 points. Gather them up as you see them go on sale for cheap, but keep in mind that you can’t repeat them in the set. You can make you’re own unique if you go on a scavenger hunt after completing campaigns but before going through Sorrow’s Furnace dungeon.
For Fellowship start off by capturing any pet. Before doing Underworld, do a practice run and get a Black Widow Spider. Grab a Black Moa while working on the Kurzick side of Factions, don’t forget to grab the Imperial Phoenix after the last mission there as well. M.O.X. can be added as soon as you attain him. This will add 5 more points. While other heroes will require to have upgraded armor to be added so you can get up to the full 8 points.
For Resilience – You could get all 8 points with just throwing a lot of money at it. It’s not very practical though. One Kurzick/luxon and One Vabbian with 3 other types will get you 6 more points.
For Valor – Oppressor weapons can be gained by completing War in Kryta. Convert War Supplies to get it a little sooner. Save up for a destroyer and tormented and you’ll have 4 more points.
Doing all missions, elite dungeons, lockpicking, vanquishing, 20 minipets, the 4 elite pets, M.O.X., 5 armors, and 3 special weapons will put you at 32 points or more!
