Guild Wars 2 – Path of Fire Announced!

  • YEAH! – Bill describes it ALL!
  • Class Specializations Dev Diary
    • Elite Specializations Weekend – Aug 18-20
      • Spellbreaker (Warrior)
        • Wield Daggers
        • Many traits nullify or punish magic
          • Loss Aversion grants adrenaline to the spellbreaker and deals damage to foes upon removing their boons.
          • Enchantment Collapse synergizes with this by removing additional boons in the area around an enemy whose boons have been stripped.
      • Holosmith (Engineer)
        • Wield swords
        • Uses photon-generators (hard light) for new abilities
        • New mechanic is heat-management
          • Overheating dmgs the player.  Heat can also charge-up abilities to do more damage to enemies
      • Weaver (Elementalist)
        • Wields swords
        • New mechanic is to wield two elements at the same time
          • This means skills for every possible combination of elements – over 100 new skills!
      • Firebrand (Guardian)
        • New weapon is the axe
        • Fire-focussed abilities
        • Lore is based around a secretive sect of lore-saving guardians
      • Renegade (Revenant)
        • New weapon – shortbow
        • New soul to call on Kalla Scorchrazor, a charr warband leader
          • Abilities focus on summoning warband members to fight for you.  Group damage boosting
      • Deadeye (Thief)
        • Wields Rifle
        • Deadeye’s Mark replaces the Steal skill and allows them to maintain their distance.
          • Retains modifier choices made through traits, but instead of stealing items from enemies, the deadeye steals aspects of their target, such as movement, strength, and warmth. They gain boons while their enemies are afflicted with negative conditions.
      • Mirage (Mesmer)
        • Wields Axe
        • Instead of physically dodging attacks, mirages use their Mirage Cloak to force attacks to pass harmlessly through them. The Mirage Cloak can be used both defensively and offensively, so a mirage must make conscious choices on how they spend endurance.
        • Activating Mirage Cloak offensively via the dodge button will enable ambush attacks. Ambushes are available on the first skill of every weapon set and are designed to complement each weapon’s playstyle. It’s also possible to force all of your illusions to use ambush attacks via the Illusionary Ambush utility skill, or by taking the Infinite Horizon trait, which, when active, applies Mirage Cloak to all of your illusions.
      • Scourge (Necromancer)
        • Wields Torches
        • Summons Sand Shades
          • Scourges forsake their death shrouds for the ability to create areas of power by summoning sand shades. These shades restock regularly for frequent use. The scourge’s second through fifth skills cause both the necromancer and their shades to emanate the effects of those skills, providing everything from protective barriers for allies, to fear for all enemies in range.
      • Soulbeast (Ranger)
        • The soulbeast gains benefits from merging with their pet based on the pet’s archetype. Each pet fits into one of the following archetypes: stout (defensive), ferocious (power), deadly (conditions), supportive (healing), or versatile (utility).
        • Each pet family can contain pets of multiple archetypes. If you want a supportive canine, merging with the sylvan hound will grant bonus healing power and access to the Spiritual Reprieve profession skill. If you want the power archetype and access to the Worldly Impact profession skill, merging with the drakehound canine will provide those in addition to the canine family skills.
  • Beta Weekend
    • New zone is visually quite striking
    • Mount control felt good but not perfect. Mostly well done with some moment of clunky movement.
      • Bill – disagree.
    • Race quest was run
    • Deliberately avoided anything that might seem story-ish
  • Store update – free Season 1 memory chest.
    • Contains cosmetics from Season 1.
  • Upcoming
    • Mount week (Aug 28)
    • Story week (Sept 3)

LOTRO – Mordor Expansion Launches

  • First few hours have been tough but fun
  • Mordor is a very gloomy place
  • Some very tough mobs in the early areas.
  • Starts quites slowly.
  • Alliance system nowhere to be seen yet.
  • New “currency” reminds me of GW2 and salvaging.
  • Chris – I need to update my gear.

TERA Press Release:

Classic Enemies and Bosses Invade TERA Starting August 15

Players Will Fend off an Argon Invasion as Part of a Dynamic New In-Game Event

SEATTLE, August 10, 2017—En Masse Entertainment today announced Argon Assault, a massive new event for their flagship free-to-play MMORPG, TERA, set to be released on August 15. Argon Assault will see players fighting off daily invasions of the malevolent argons in exchange for science-fiction-themed cosmetic items and other valuable in-game rewards.

Twice daily, from August 15 through September 5, a legion of argon monsters will invade TERA’s open-world zones of Savage Reach, Spring Valley, Ex Prima, Highwatch, Arx Umbra, and Balder’s Refuge. Players will need to band together to take on these buffed-up argon monsters for a chance at earning special event loot boxes containing sci-fi items including plasma weapon skins, skycycle and jetcycle flying mounts, wearable accessories, and valuable enchanting materials. The fleet of invading enemies includes some of TERAs most fondly remembered—but long-dormant—bosses, including the argon queen herself… Shandra Manaya!

The Argon Assault will take place primarily in high-level zones and will require players to be at the top of their game. To aid new players in reaching max level in time to participate in the event, En Masse has launched a lengthy leveling event that is also active through September 5. Throughout the event, players earn double the normal experience for every monster they kill, while also unlocking extensive reward packages for reaching specific level milestones.

Players who make it all the way to Level 65 during the event will be awarded a permanent Zephyr flying mount and Veteran’s Cape back-slot accessory! With both the Argon Assaultand the leveling event running through September 5, this summer is the perfect time to get into TERA!
