The recurring battle for Lake Wintergrasp has been a long-standing source of conflict, grief, and balance issues throughout the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Servers with dramatic faction imbalances have always struggled with keeping things, well… balanced. For the most part, any server you go to these days will have one faction dominating Wintergrasp, and thus the Vault of Archavon raid within, a majority of the time.

Blizzard’s initial idea implemented with Wrath of the Lich King was to offer a stacking buff to the under-manned side called Tenacity. Each stack increased your health pool, damage and healing output by a certain percentage. The problem with Tenacity was that in some cases it just didn’t matter enough. If the number difference between factions was small, then a couple matter how many stacks of Tenacity you had, you could still be brought down without issue because it ended up being 10v1 or something ludicrous like that.
